"Making a difference, one child at a time."
I’m Mrs. Scannell. I am so excited to be teaching Kindergarten here at Holy Family School. This is my 18th year in education. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Ed. and a Master’s Degree in Special Ed. I went to Catholic Schools from Kindergarten through 12th grades. Most of my career I taught in the public school system and now have the opportunity to return to my roots and teach in Catholic School. It is a gift to be able to teach religion and share my faith. Educating for the spirit and mind is so rewarding.
I have taught Pre-K through sixth grade and have learned so much through those experiences. I began an autism program from its inception. Working together with families and a great support staff, our program was awarded a New York State grant as a model program. The relationship between the team that I worked with during those years, paired with the children and their families, had a deep impact on my career. I realized that students truly excel when school and home connect to form a strong foundation for the child.
I am passionate about learning and enjoy every minute of sharing that energy with my students. Creating an environment, where children can grow in confidence socially, academically and spiritually is a great honor. My favorite saint is Mother Teresa. I try to live my life by her words, ‘A life not lived for others is not a life.’
When I am not teaching Kindergarten, I love reading and being part of a book club. My favorite author is Mark Zusak. I also teach Pilates and have been an instructor for 18 years. The practice helps maintain balance between mind and body. I enjoy sharing the peace and tranquility it builds with others.
